Professor Tak On Chan (Kelvin) serves as the visionary Director-General of the UNION for SDGs. Renowned for his profound expertise in sustainable development and a distinguished academic career, Professor Chan has dedicated his life to advancing the 2030 Agenda. His leadership combines strategic foresight, global collaboration, and innovative solutions to address humanity’s most pressing challenges.
Kelvin's Story
Professor Tak On CHAN (Kelvin), JP, is a practitioner in sustainable development, governance, and multi-stakeholder implementation, with over a decade of experience working across international, governmental, and private sector contexts.
His work focuses on the operationalization of global frameworks, particularly in advancing integrated approaches that align economic, social, and institutional priorities. He has been involved in the design and implementation of cross-sector initiatives engaging governments, international organizations, and corporate partners across multiple regions.
Professor Chan has participated in high-level United Nations processes, including serving as a Canadian Delegate to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2025) and the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2). He is also an appointed expert to the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT). In addition, he is an Official Candidate, pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 60/10.
His professional background is interdisciplinary, encompassing psychology, finance, governance, and law. He is a Chartered Psychologist, a Fellow Accountant, and a CFA Regular Member, and serves as an Adjunct Professor in Business Administration and Psychology.
Professor Chan has also contributed extensively at the community level in Canada, leading initiatives related to youth engagement, education, and public health, with a cumulative voluntary contribution exceeding 20,000 hours.
His contributions have been recognized through international distinctions, including the UK Alumni Award (as the first recipient from Hong Kong), recognition as one of the youngest selected awardees of the World Outstanding Chinese honour, and the creation of the first Guinness World Record associated with the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2024, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace and awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by the University of Greenwich.
