Project GENERA
Global Youth Leadership Programme for practical SDG implementation.
Programme overview
Project GENERA is UNION’s global youth leadership and implementation platform for translating sustainable-development priorities into practical, locally led action. It connects young people, universities, Endorsed Partners, communities, nonprofit organizations, experts and other relevant stakeholders around real-world SDG challenges.
The Programme is designed to move youth engagement beyond awareness. Participants work through a structured process of identifying needs, developing practical responses, coordinating stakeholders, implementing approved activities, documenting outcomes and sharing lessons that can strengthen future implementation.
Strategic role within the UNION ecosystem
Project GENERA is the principal implementation platform connecting UNION’s youth and institutional pathways. Endorsed Partners can contribute expertise, mentoring, networks, resources and implementation capability. Participating universities can mobilize trained SDGs Ambassadors to host or support approved activities locally. Youth teams can also continue to participate through approved global proposal or challenge pathways.
Participation pathways
Global proposal / challenge pathway
Eligible youth teams develop project ideas in response to approved themes or calls. Selected concepts proceed through UNION review and implementation planning.
Ambassador-hosted local pathway
Universities use their SDGs Ambassador cohort to host, adapt or support approved Project GENERA activities locally.
Endorsed Partner engagement
Qualified institutional partners contribute expertise, mentoring, local access, networks, implementation support or appropriate resources to approved activities.

Stakeholder value
Youth
Leadership, project design, implementation experience and global learning.
Communities
Locally relevant action shaped around real needs and practical outcomes.
Universities
Applied learning, community engagement and continuity through Ambassador cohorts.
Nonprofits & CSOs
Partnership opportunities linking community knowledge with youth and institutional capacity.
Endorsed Partners
A structured pathway to contribute expertise and implementation capability.
UNION ecosystem
Evidence, learning and replicable models that strengthen future programmes.
Sustaining impact
Project GENERA is designed for continuity rather than one-off activity. Local ownership keeps projects relevant; Ambassador cohorts provide a repeatable university mechanism; Endorsed Partners strengthen institutional capacity; standardized documentation supports learning and accountability; and successful approaches can be adapted across institutions, communities or countries where appropriate. Funding and in-kind support should remain linked to genuine implementation needs and should not purchase recognition or programme status.
Institutional participation
Where an organization seeks formal institutional partnership within Project GENERA, UNION may require the organization to meet the relevant Endorsed Partner criteria. Participation remains subject to programme review, fit, safeguards, resources and local implementation requirements.
