UNGP for SDGs: Reflecting on 2024 and Pioneering Global SDG Certification in 2025 / UNGP

Since the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, we have now reached the midpoint of the global implementation timeline. However, public awareness and understanding of the SDGs remain relatively low worldwide, highlighting the need for further education, engagement, and structured action.

Since the formal adoption of the SDGs in September 2015, UNGP has been actively driving global efforts to promote and integrate sustainable development into various sectors. Reflecting on our journey, in early 2016, we achieved a historic milestone by setting the world’s first Guinness World Record related to the SDGs, engaging with hundreds of thousands of individuals to raise awareness and foster participation. In addition to our engagement with the public, we have collaborated with businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to accelerate progress on the SDGs. By 2021, we strategically shifted our administrative headquarters to North America, establishing the first UNGP Community Hub in Toronto, Canada, further strengthening our ability to facilitate regional SDG initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2025, UNGP is set to officially launch its SDG assessment and certification initiatives. As the world’s only organization dedicated to the independent evaluation and accreditation of SDG implementation, we will provide a trusted platform for businesses, institutions, and government entities to assess their alignment with the SDGs. Our expert team will offer in-depth guidance and structured support to ensure effective integration of sustainable practices. Additionally, we will provide tailored training programs and organize international study visits to United Nations agencies and expert-led workshops, equipping government bodies, corporations, and academic institutions with the necessary tools to drive impactful SDG implementation. These initiatives will serve as a key pathway for stakeholders to enhance their global expertise and expand their professional networks.

Furthermore, UNGP will continue to actively participate in high-level United Nations summits and global SDG forums, leveraging our expertise and influence to advance the international sustainability agenda. By fostering structured, evidence-based SDG education, assessment, and strategic engagement, we remain committed to bridging the gap between global objectives and local action. Together, we can enhance public understanding, strengthen institutional capacity, and accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable and equitable world.
